We had or final pornography debate. I, again, was on the "against" side. The "for" and "against" sides had to win over the people who were neutral. Well, the "for" side got somebody. People are never going to learn that porn is wrong. They are going to just act as immoral as the rest of society who are not true Christians. My classmates can get mad all they want at me, but in the end, God will make the final judgment.
I am just so glad that the whole "pornography" section is over and done with....hopefully. Throughout this whole time in Com 122, I prayed for strength, guidance and wisdom as I share my beliefs and views with everyone. It is just a semester class, but I will have to out up with people just like them throughout my life, which scares me. I will just have to keep the faith that I have and avoid sin at all costs.

The pornography debate was very interesting. I, of course, was on the "against" side versus the "for" side which was made up of two-thirds of the class. I was somewhat unsure if I could state my opinions, beliefs and truths strongly. I think that I pulled it off quite well.
One subject that frustrated me was that the " for" side kept on contradicting themselves. They would state that a relationship would not last if their sex life was not "spicy" or interesting; the relationship would fail if sex was not present. Well, I stood up for morality and asked them why they think that a relationship depends on sex. They would respond, saying that it's not just sex, although, they did not give me any other example on what a relationship is based on. They were all hung up on sex being the bottom line in a relationship. Obviously, they need a lesson in love because they know nothing about it. The purpose of marriage is to procreate and to share the love inside of yourself with your husband or wife, but sex is not the bottom line! Love is the bottom line! Not necessarily physical love, but the pure love that comes from the heart that shows how much you care, adore and ultimately love that person. If you want a proper lesson in love, read the New Testament of Bible.

I liked writing my personal essay. I felt that it helped me to reflect back on my life and made me realize the path that my life is taking. I enjoyed telling my peers about my paper because I had the opportunity to put the idea of God into their mind. I think that after writing this essay, my spirituality grew deeper.
I understand now that so many people were placed into my life in order to help me be where I am today on my relationship with God. I love them very much. I miss them very much, too, since they are all back home in Tampa. The friends that I do talk to whether it is over the phone or by e-mail, they all tell me the same thing, "Read your bible, go to church and don't let anyone corrupt your morality." I plan to do just that.

Looking At Women was our first assignment for pornography. It was an essay written by Scott Russell Sanders and his reaction to naked women. At first, I was kind of scared to read it because I was not sure whether this guy was going to explain himself in a graphic way or in a tasetful way. He wrote the essay rather tastefully and did had an amazing use of references. I was impressed.
I agreed with him on some of his views. For example, he said that "women need not make spectacles of themselves in order to draw the attention of men." As well, I think that women do not need to dress sexy or provocatively in order to catch men. They need to be themselves, but if they think that they way they dress reflects who they are, then that's not saying very much at all. He also used some humor to keep the reader enticed. One of my favorite parts was when he said "what were these if not hooks thrown out into male waters." In this case, he was describing items like makeup, jewelry and sexy clothing. This essay has certainly exposed me to interesting outlooks on pornography, sex, women and men.

I started my English class this week and our first issue is pornography. I was appauled at this because I was afraid of what type of assignments may be issued and how my classmates would react to this subject. I was also worried if this topic would corrupt me in any way. I do not want to discuss something that I am not comfortable with, but if I have a good foundation to back-up my view, then I might be up to a debate.
Being a strong Christian, I think that pornography is wrong, immoral and has no place in today's society. I cringe to think that there are people who think that it is good, enjoyable and/or politically correct. It says in the New American Standard Bible in First Peter chapter two, verse eleven: "Beloved, I urge you as aliens and strangers to abstain from fleshly lusts whuch wage war against the soul."
